Characters accumulate experience and gain levels throughout the game. The maximum attainable level for players is 80. Leveling up however, is not the only way to make progress. Other aspects of the game, such as accumulating skills, traits and achievements also play a major role in character progression.

While it is an appealing aspect, the higher experience requirements for the higher levels are what separate the determined from the weekend gamer. I think you should have to work for such a high level, and your challenges should increase the higher you go; otherwise it's just another level.
ReplyDeleteAlso, you might want to make your graph more professional; the one you have is very one sided.
I think the graph is fine, if rudimentary. And with bots, there's no real reason to make it any more difficult. making it less intuitive would be good to combat bots though.
ReplyDeleteI didn't make that graph, its from the official wiki and has been proven accurate in terms of representing the "curve" of leveling in GW2.
ReplyDeleteIt has been confirmed that to get from level 79 to 80 will take roughly the same time as, lets say, 20 to 21 would take.
Well I love grinding and I love the hard work and satisfaction of getting to a higher level in mmo's...
ReplyDeleteSo it's basically like WoW? Have never played WoW or any other RPG, but saw a lot of references on South Park and The Simpsons, so I feel like a pro ...
ReplyDeleteI've just read through your whole blog and it's making me want to re-activate my account, haha.
ReplyDeletepersonally i get a lot of satisfaction out of levelling up after grinding for some time. I used to play runescape and the feeling of unlocking new armor was great. But i also have nearly 900 hours on CSS with no reward for my efforts but my skills, and the feeling of winning after a 1v9 when the rest of the team is down is unbeatable :P its also quite nice to be called a hacker every once in a while :P
ReplyDeleteThat's pretty good. It means that you can play the game casually and get to a relatively high level without grinding like mad. I quite liked the original guild wars, where the max level was 20...
ReplyDeleteInteresting, really. Havent seen it.
ReplyDeleteI think this game can go where WoW will never go.
ReplyDeleteAt least with Guild Wars, skill matters more than gear.
have you considered club penguin?

rate my poetry!
I loved this game whenI first heard about it, I got tired of playing WoW long ago. Thinking about getting this and now I have guidelines to go by. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteFollow my goals
Damn I completely forgot about Guild Wars 2. When does it come out again?
ReplyDeletefollowing and supporting.

There is no confirmed release date as of yet. :(
ReplyDeleteArenaNet is going with the whole "when it's done" policy. But the general consensus speculate that it will be out by Q4 this year. Hopefully. :)
cool blog, following.
ReplyDeleteNow thats a nice idea but I personally liked the level curves of the most of the MMORPG's.
ReplyDeleteI think it builds a nice arc of suspense.... You know what you have done after leveling ;)
interesting that levels work that way. not really a fair representation otherwise
ReplyDeleteI actually prefer the higher XP requirements.
